“다양한 우리가 함께 만들어 가는 인천시립미술관”
인천시는 시민 및 지역예술계의 오랜 염원을 담아 시립미술관을 건립 중입니다.
인천시립미술관의 성공적인 개관을 위해서 단계별로 콘텐츠 개발(2019), 소장품 정책(2022), 운영 방안(2023) 등 연구를 추진하고, 관계 전문가들과 미술관의 방향성을 다각도로 모색해 왔습니다.
착공을 앞둔 시점에서 인천시립미술관의 건립·개관 준비 과정을 시민, 지역미술계, 전문가 등과 공유하고 소통하기 위한 ‘사전홍보 기반 구축 및 운영’ 사업을 미술관 개관 전까지 지속적으로 추진합니다.
사업의 첫 출발인 2024년은 사전프로그램 ‘전문가 연구세미나’와 시민참여 ‘공개포럼’을 진행합니다.
지역미술계, 공립미술관장, 미술비평가 등이 참석하는 ‘전문가 연구세미나’는 3차례에 걸쳐 다양한 주제를 심도 있게 논의하며, 세미나를 진행한 이후에는 시민참여 ‘공개포럼’을 개최합니다. 이를 통해 국내외 관계전문가와 시민들의 의견과 아이디어를 반영하면서 소통·협력하는 ‘열린 미술관’으로써 한 걸음 나가고자 합니다.
특히 인천이 가진 지역 특수성인 ‘개항과 이민의 역사’를 중심으로 ‘DEIA : Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility (다양성, 형평성, 포용성, 접근성)’에 대한 주제를 미술 비평적 관점에서 들여다보게 됩니다. 이러한 다양한 주제와 가치를 포용하는 인천시립미술관의 논의를 토대로 시민, 지역미술계, 전문가 등이 참여하여 미술관 개관에 대한 공감대를 형성해 나갈 계획입니다.
세미나와 공개포럼에서 제시된 내용들은 연구자료로 제작해 인천시 홈페이지와 사전프로그램 홍보를 위한 웹페이지(www.incm-project.com)에 게시해 누구나 공유할 수 있도록 공개합니다.

Incheon City is currently constructing a municipal art museum, fulfilling a long-standing desire of its citizens and local artistic community.
To ensure the successful opening of the Incheon Art Museum, we have been conducting research in phases, including content development in 2019, collection policies in 2022, and operational strategies in 2023. We have collaborated extensively with experts to explore various directions for the museum.
As we approach the groundbreaking phase, we are committed to sharing and communicating the preparation process for the establishment and opening of the Incheon Art Museum with citizens, the local arts community, and professionals through the establishment and operation of a ‘pre-promotion platform’.
Starting in 2024, the initial project will feature a ‘Expert Research Seminar’ and a ‘Public Forum’ for citizen participation.
The ‘Expert Research Seminar’, attended by local art community members, public art museum directors, and art critics, will span three sessions, engaging in-depth discussions on various topics. Following the seminars, we will organize a ‘Public Forum’ for citizen participation. Through these activities, we aim to progress towards becoming an ‘open art museum’, fostering communication and collaboration by reflecting the opinions and ideas of domestic and international experts and citizens.
In particular, focusing on Incheon’s unique historical aspects of ‘port opening and immigration’, we will examine themes of ‘DEIA: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility’ from an art-critical perspective. Based on discussions encompassing these diverse themes and values embraced by the Incheon Art Museum, we aim to foster a shared understanding among citizens, the local art community, and experts as we move toward the museum’s opening.
The contents presented in the seminars and public forums will be compiled into research materials, which will be made publicly available on the Incheon City website and a dedicated webpage (www.incm-project.com) for pre-program promotion. This ensures that anyone can access and share these materials.
